A good friend recommended this and it works well for my use case. I was considering getting a plastic cover for my pencil but I doubt it would fit in the side..All features like sleep on close and charge of pencil work and it looks really sleek.

It’s a good case with clear back. Pencil slots fit the apple pencil well. My only issue was when I got it. sticker on the packaging said “iPad 10.9” so I was confused because I ordered for iPad Air. Sticker with barcode at the back did confirm that I got the correct item code for the iPad Air case.
